On Saturday, Feb. 24, over 100 participants gathered for the early morning 5k run/walk series hosted by the Tribal Health Department (THD) at the District 2 Service Center.

All ages participated in this event with joy and smiles as they went through the course. The total number of participants reached 126 and was open to all federally recognized tribal members. Runners and walkers pass by, stating, “It’s so beautiful out here,” and “Take another picture of my good side.”

Incentives were given to the first 100 participants to complete the run/walk.

The series from THD began on Jan. 27, bringing together 168 participants to promote and provide physical activity opportunities for the Gila River Indian Community.

“THD is happy to provide these events [and] opportunities to participants in each district throughout Gila River,” said Telesha Irving, THD’s Community Health Education Specialist.

Those who might have missed the two events are in luck; THD will host two more run/walk series. The next one will be held in District 5 on Saturday, Mar. 30, and the last run/walk of the series will be held in District 4 on Saturday, Apr. 27.
