Amid a packed house inside Gila River Indian Community’s Council chambers, six newly elected and re-elected Council Representatives took their oath of office, June 1, and assumed their seats during a swearing in ceremony administered by GRIC Chief Judge Victor Antone.
The new and returning Council Representatives won their respective seats during the May 3 Tribal Election that decided who would represent Districts 2 through 7.
The re-elected Council Representatives who were sworn in and have returned to their seats are: Carol Schurz for District 2, Carolyn Williams for District 3, Robert Stone for District 5, and Devin Redbird for District 7.
Newly elected Council Representatives who were sworn in and now represent their respective districts are: Barney Enos Jr. for District 4 and Charles Goldtooth for District 6.
After the ceremony concluded, the representatives’ families, friends, and work colleagues took to the Council chamber floor to shake hands with the newly elected officials and congratulate them on their accomplishment.
