District 4 recently got a sneak peek at the new multi-purpose facility. During Independence Day festivities, the service center staff hosted an open house of the District 4 Multi-purpose Facility on July 3 where Community members dined in the gymnasium and toured the new rooms and spaces for future use.
The Gila River Indian Community broke ground on the new 48,470-acre facility on Jan. 12 of last year, and will include an elders center, exercise room, indoor track and outdoor swimming pool.
“Space was a big thing, we had to go to other districts to host programs, but now we got our own space to bring those things back here,” said District 4 Community Council representative Delmar Jones.
He said things like the pool are a new addition to the district, but that it was important to have a more space for the elders, which will have a dedicated center.
“There’s a teen room, a computer lab, there’s something for everyone,” said Jones. “Community members want to work on their computer skills can do that here, but there’s so much you can do with this new facility.”
