The Gila River Indian Community continued with assistance for Community members during the COVID-19 pandemic with an additional food distribution, Friday, June 19, with items donated from Gila River Hotels & Casinos’ inventory.
Trucks delivered the food items to district service centers, which were prepared for distribution. Staff arranged the boxes based on household size and presorted the donations to ensure an equal share of the food was available for the districts.
Abiding by all safety precautions for a contactless distribution, staff members loaded the vehicles. All staff wore masks and gloves to ensure safe transit to the cars. Community members receiving the food were also required to wear masks to ensure the safety of staff members.
Those who were homebound or without a vehicle had food items delivered to them at a later time. Additionally, food items were available to urban members who could pick up items at District 3 and District 7 service centers.
As with previous distributions, the donations consisted of perishable items with limited shelf life, including fruits, vegetables, milk, and eggs.
